This was the old Amer railway station, on the line that linked Olot to Sant Feliu de Guíxols. After the arrival of electricity, the Olot train was the most important technological innovation seen in El Gironès, La Selva and La Garrotxa regions at the start of the 20th century. The launch of that railway business meant the modernisation of transport, which offered much greater speed and load capacity than the traditional system of horse-drawn carts and wagons. The opening of the entire route covered by the new railway link between Girona and Olot took place on 14 December 1911, although the section of the line from Amer to Salt had already been operational since 1895.
The Carrilet was a basic element of communication in this part of the Girona Province until 1969, when the train was dismantled and the stations were put to other uses. At present, the Amer Carrilet station is located next to the Vies Verdes (Greenways) recreational and tourist route for pedestrians and cyclists, which is run by the consortium made up of the Vies Verdes and the Girona Provincial Council.
The restoration of this building started with the interior of the station (1996), and that of the exterior (painting and roughcast rendering) was carried out years later, in 2004.
