The diversity of the La Selva region is evident in many aspects, and its museum heritage is no exception. Throughout the territory, we find museums, interpretation centers, archives, and collections of all kinds, ranging from exhibitions showcasing centuries-old relics to more immersive experiences powered by new technologies.

Ancestral trades

To learn how the traditional trades of La Selva’s former inhabitants were carried out, the region offers several dedicated spaces. To learn about rural life, in Fogars de la Selva you will find the Museu de la Pagesia. Lloret de Mar features two spaces dedicated to the sea and seafaring life: Es Tint and the Museu del Mar. In Breda, the ceramic heritage is represented by the Centre Cultural “Els Forns” and the Museu Municipal Josep Aragay. And in Sant Hilari, at the Centre Artesà de la Torneria, you can find everything you want to know about the craft of woodturning.

Industry and automotive

The significance of the industrial revolution in Anglès is highlighted at La Burès, a former textile factory converted into an interpretation center showcasing the town’s history from prehistory to reindustrialization.

For automotive enthusiasts, the Col·lecció d’Automòbils Salvador Claret in Sils features over 350 vehicles on display.

Nature and biodiversity

If you are a nature lover, in La Cellera de Ter you will find the interpretation center for the Coves del Pasteral, featuring archaeological and natural sites from the Canet mountain. To discover the fauna and flora of Les Guilleries in depth, you can visit the Museu Guilleries in Sant Hilari Sacalm. At the Espai Aquae in Caldes de Malavella, you can learn how Caldes de Malavella became a thermal spa town thanks to its geology and thermal waters.

Traces of the past

La Selva preserves archaeological remains, castles, and historic buildings that recall the region’s past. To explore its Iberian history, Lloret de Mar houses the Museu d’Arqueologia Can Saragossa. If you want to learn more about the Roman era, Blandae in Blanes is a great place to start. On the other hand, if you are interested in medieval history, the castles of Montsoriu and Hostalric are the ideal visit to discover the Viscounty of Cabrera. In fact, the Museu Etnològic del Montseny in Arbúcies houses archaeological remains from Montsoriu Castle alongside a extensive ethnological collection. Finally, to experience the Art Nouveau past, you can step into the Casa Museu Can Font.
