Sils

Discover Sils

Sils is a municipality closely linked to water, the flat landscape and the memory of an ancient lake, which was the largest in Catalonia. Its identity has been shaped by the strength of nature, communication routes and a history marked by the relationship between settlements, fields and wetlands.

The Estany de Sils, which was drained and reduced to its minimum expression many years ago, is now one of the municipality’s main attractions, with routes, nature and tranquillity. Legends and traditions are linked to the lake, such as that of Pere Porter and the gate of hell, together with related heritage elements such as the Pont del Diable, the Sèquia de Sils and the Fites de l’Estany.

But in Sils, we can also see the human footprint linked to the churches of Santa Eulàlia de Vallcanera and Santa Maria, of Romanesque origin, which formed part of the domains of the former Viscounty of Cabrera, or to traditions such as the Aplec de la Sardana de Sils, which, with more than 60 years of history, is one of the oldest and most important sardana events in the region.
