Ice wells are structures created by digging into the ground in areas where ice or snow was easily accessible. These pits were made with the purpose of filling them with snow or ice so that it could be used for the rest of the year. The top was sealed with a vaulted cover that had openings to allow the introduction and removal of snow or ice, although sometimes it had a lower entrance for extraction. The Sobirà snow pit is dated between the 17th and 18th centuries and is the result of the snow trade that took place at the time. The well was the property of the Sobirà farmhouse, although the documentation relating to its chronology was lost in a fire.
The well consists of a semi-buried cylindrical chamber and a hemispherical vault, with dimensions of eight metres in diameter and eleven metres in height above ground. It has two openings at different levels, oriented north and south, and walls approximately 80 centimetres thick.
