Church of Sant Pere – OSOR

The church of Sant Pere stands on a small hill beside the main road of Osor, in an elevated area shaped by a large natural terrace above the riera de la Noguerola. It is a large building that has evolved over the centuries into a complex architectural ensemble highly representative of the municipality.

The main body consists of a nave with four side chapels on each side, interconnected. The façade stands out for its large lowered-arch stone doorway made of moulded granite blocks, where the year 1798 is engraved on the keystone. Above it are a niche, a large rose window with an iron grille and an oculus, while the eaves are formed by four rows of tiles and bricks. The complex is completed by a small side turret, possibly an old communal bell tower, and an annex volume with arches and openings.

On the southern façade, remains of the Romanesque temple consecrated in 1125 are preserved, with Lombard arches, pilaster strips and traces of double-splayed windows. The bell tower, with a square plan and built with large stone blocks, preserves twin windows and features a 19th-century rebuilt crown with brick battlements. The ensemble reflects a long historical evolution, with renovations between the 15th and 18th centuries and severe damage caused by the earthquakes of 1427–1430.
