The first mention of El Sobirà dates back to 1294, although the current building is the result of a construction that began in 1577 after the union of the Sobirà d’Amunt and Sobirà d’Avall farmhouses. The structure is complex and is made up of a series of different buildings.
It is an old manor house from the 16th century, which was enlarged and renovated in the 18th and 19th centuries, and restored in the 20th century, although documentation of the family exists dating back to the 13th century.
The main problems facing the inhabitants of the farmhouse were traditionally banditry and feuds. El Sobirà’s main source of income was chestnut wood, which was used to make barrels and, more recently, chesnut poles have been used for making furniture.
