Hostalric Castle is built on a hill of basaltic stone. There is evidence that a fortification already existed there in 1145, but the castle that has survived to this day was built in the 18th century to become a military fortification.
The entire enclosure has a bastion system. We find the typical defensive elements of the period, such as an inner enclosure, a moat, external works and a covered path. El Cavaller, the highest part, occupies the space of the old castle of the Cabrera family .
