Oxen Square

This square marks the end of the walled enclosure and, in the past, of the town itself. It was from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries onwards that the town grew on the far side of the square, with the streets of Raval and Ravalet, already outside the walls. The square thus became the hub of the town and the setting for celebrations and activities, such as the livestock fairs held throughout the year, which gave it its distinctive name.

This square provides an excellent vantage point. From the so-called balcony of the square you can see the Castle of Hostalric, the local orchards and the Tordera river, as well as the mountain range that separates the area from the coast.
