Almost half a kilometer up the track from the Romanesque-style church of Sant Marçal del Colomer, we find the curious font Pudosa del Colomer, a small elongated pond where you can perceive the murmur of carbon dioxide and radon bubbles breaking on the surface. This is due to the geographical location of Amer, which is located right on top of an active fault that runs approximately 30 kilometers between the comarques of la Selva and la Garrotxa. This fault produced major seismic movements in the 15th century, which are responsible for several earthquakes in 1427 and 1428 that caused severe damage to Camprodon, Olot, and other municipalities. The fault still shows activity, and, in fact, Amer is one of the places in Catalunya with the highest chances of having an earthquake, although the current risk is low.
