The mineral and medicinal properties of the Font Picant water have been known since 1884. It was declared a public spring in 1903 and became a well-known pilgrimage site, culminating in the ambitious project to build a garden colony and a hotel towards the end of the 1920s.
The popularity of the spring and the nearby railway station in Amer led to the creation of a spa and hotel next to the spring, the Hotel Palatín, which would be its most noteworthy building. However, it would all end up disappearing in the early 1960s, with the exception of the bottling plant (belonging to the well-known Fonter company). Today, it is a very busy place, where you can sample the sparkling water with its distinctive flavour, directly from the spring itself. The area where the spring is located, alongside the Brugent river, is a peaceful, shady spot, ideal for a pleasant stroll, and can be accessed from the Carrilet Greenway.
