Vilobí d’Onyar is a municipality that combines a flat landscape, small settlements such as Salitja, Sant Dalmai and Vilobí d’Onyar itself, and a heritage that explains its evolution over the centuries. Between the rural world, local history and proximity to important communication routes, it preserves its own clearly defined identity.
One of the main protagonists of this municipality in La Selva is an ancient volcano, the Crosa de Sant Dalmai, which has the largest crater in the Iberian Peninsula. The wetlands that once existed there have given way to a protected natural area occupied by crops and tree plantations. By following one of the municipality’s routes, you can reach the viewpoint of les Guilloteres, where a vertical cut reveals the superposition of the layers from the volcano’s different eruptions. Very nearby, in the highest area of the volcano, stands the hermitage of Sant Llop, with a magnificent panoramic view.
Much of the municipality, due to its flat conditions, is occupied by crops and farms, but if anything has been favoured by these flat conditions, it is the establishment of Girona-Costa Brava Airport.
