The castle of Vilobí d’Onyar is located in the centre of the town and constitutes the historical origin of the settlement. It is a medieval building situated in a flat area, which has influenced its more residential and administrative role rather than a strictly defensive one.
The structure preserves a square plan with corner towers and elements dating back to the 12th century, despite numerous later modifications. Notable features include the entrance doorway with a voussoir arch and remains of interior rooms with vaulted ceilings, as well as construction elements made of volcanic stone from the Crosa de Sant Dalmai.
The castle has historically been linked to various noble families, including the Malars, Santmartí and Cruïlles, and underwent several renovation phases until the 19th and 20th centuries, when neo-medieval elements were added that define its current appearance.
