The Hostalric Town Hall and the Centre Cultural Serafí Pitarra are located in what was formerly the Convent of San Francisco de Paula, founded in 1610. Abandoned in 1835 following the disentailment of Mendizábal, in 1924 the architect Bonaventura Conill transformed it into the building we see today.
This building houses the Municipal Council. As you can read on the façade, it is also called the Casa de la Vila (Town Hall). Do you know why? Because this is where the mayor and the councillors sit, who are elected by all the people of the town to represent them. Local residents can participate in elections from the age of eighteen.
