Tourdera Route

River environments possess exceptional heritage value, both environmentally and economically, as well as in terms of the important social activities that take place there. The Tordera and the Arbúcies Stream are excellent examples of watercourses that have played a highly significant role in shaping the landscape and human settlement in their surroundings. Among the many activities that can be developed along them is tourism, particularly active tourism.

The “Tordera and Arbúcies Stream Route” project arose from the shared commitment of its various public-sector promoters to enhance the natural, cultural and intangible resources associated with the Tordera River and its basin. The project promotes hiking and cycle tourism along two major watercourses, the Tordera and the Arbúcies Stream, following the example of routes created along other important rivers, such as the Danube Cycle Path and the Rhône Route, or the smaller and much closer Muga Nature Trail in Alt Empordà.

The Tordera basin is ideally situated for a project of this kind, thanks to its excellent transport links, the Costa Brava, Montseny Natural Park, tourism infrastructure, natural coastal and mountain landscapes, cultural heritage and much more. Adapting this route for hiking and cycle tourism aims to attract visitors interested in the area and its heritage, diversify the current tourism offering, help reduce its seasonal nature, connect the territory and create a hub of activity for service companies, shops and facilities in the participating municipalities.
