The monastery of Valldemaria preserves today only part of its former complex, but enough to understand its historical importance. In a valley and vegetation setting, the small 12th-century Romanesque church is still preserved, integrated into a later farmhouse built around 1600.

The original church has been fully incorporated into the current building. It consists of a rectangular nave with a semicircular apse, of small dimensions and in a partial state of preservation. Original elements are still visible, such as the exterior of the apse, a narrow slit window at the rear, and two side openings, one of them a semicircular arch. Inside, the chancel is separated from the main nave by a slightly pointed arch, a testimony to the different construction phases.

Founded in the 12th century as one of the earliest Cistercian female monasteries in the area, Valldemaria experienced a long monastic life until its decline and conversion into an agricultural estate from the 17th century onwards. After a long historical process, the complex has reached the present day with multiple uses and was restored in 2014, maintaining its heritage value within the landscape of Maçanet de la Selva.
