The monastery of Sant Pere Cercada is located in a forested area of the Guilleries, south of the municipality of Santa Coloma de Farners, in an isolated space surrounded by woodland. It is an ancient Augustinian canonical complex that preserves the Romanesque church as the main element of the site.
The building is late Romanesque in style, with a Latin cross plan, a triapsidal apse and an octagonal crossing tower. The western façade features a portal with receding arches, columns with carved capitals, an upper window and a bell gable. The interior preserves its original volume and stands out for its architectural unity, with construction dated between the late 12th and early 13th centuries and consecrated in 1245.
The monastery was founded in 1136 as an Augustinian community linked to the Vilademany family, lords of the area. After a period of decline, it lost its monastic function in 1592 and was converted to parish use. Today it preserves the church and remains of the original complex, set within a rural landscape of great scenic value.
