The Viscounty of Cabrera

During the Late Middle Ages (11th–14th centuries), the feudal system in Catalonia was organized around families of the high and lower nobility, ranked just below the king. This power structure was articulated through the institution of the viscountcies. One of the largest and most powerful was the Viscounty of Cabrera, associated with the noble lineage of the same name, whose heraldic emblem was a black goat on a gold field.
