The origins of the hermitage are unknown, although it may have formed part of Caldes Castle. This theory is supported both by its location, beside the thermal baths where the castle was built, and by the structure of its rear wall, constructed of coursed stone masonry and featuring an arrow slit.
The hermitage stands on Sant Grau Hill, in the centre of Caldes. It has a single nave and two small chapels dedicated to Sant Grau and Our Lady of the Remedy. At the top, positioned to the right of where the ridge beam would be, is a bell gable containing a bell. Part of the hermitage’s foundations probably belongs to the vanished medieval town wall, sections of which still survive.
