Located 50 meters above the Farners esplanade, where important celebrations such as the choir festival or the Farners gathering take place, we find the castle of Farners. We do not have a documented construction date for this military building, but archaeologically the first construction dates back to the mid-11th century. The first document in which it appears dates from the time of the Count of Barcelona, Ramon Berenguer I (1035-1076).
The floor plan of the building has an irregular trapezoid shape and covers an area of about 211 square meters. The castle is currently heavily restored, but in all the perimeter walls, two phases of construction could be differentiated: the first from the Romanesque period and the second from the modern period (possibly from the 14th-15th centuries). The enclosure has two accesses and inside, the sovereign tower stands out, circular, 8.40 meters in diameter and preserved at a height of 12 meters. Remains of other outbuildings can also be seen, which would have been rooms, shelters, and warehouses.
