With more than fifteen editions, the Malavella Festival transforms the town of Caldes into a world of legend, esotericism and mystery, inspired by the Legend of Malavella, a witch who terrified the villagers. During the festival, which is held on the last weekend of April, many activities related to magic and witchcraft are carried out.
The main events of the program begin on Friday night with a parade to the square to make the Opening Speech and the night show with giants and witches is performed. On Saturday, the streets are filled with family activities, children’s workshops, giant games and fantasy makeup. The Esoteric Night Market, the giant parade and the traditional Malavella Dance in the afternoon are particularly noteworthy. The night usually ends with live music or performances by DJs. On Sunday (Cloenda): The traditional Pujada a Sant Maurici and the Malavella Castle is held, which includes a guided tour with archaeologists to learn about the latest excavations. In the afternoon, the celebration ends with the “Fugida del Seguici de la Malavella” , a final parade where the witch is symbolically driven out to return light and joy to the town.
