The Tower of Sant Joan is a defensive or watchtower structure situated at a narrow, strategic point in the terrain. Given its location, it seems to have served to control and defend access to the village from the east. Its position in the middle of the valley also suggests that it could have functioned as a lookout tower.

The surviving remains correspond to an old square-plan building, with external dimensions of 6.28 x 6.28 metres. The walls are 1.10 metres thick and the maximum height preserved is currently about 8 or 9 metres. It seems that the tower originally had three storeys. The best-preserved part is the ground floor, while of the first and second floors only fragments of the east and west walls remain.

Considering its rural setting and the building’s characteristics, the Torre de Sant Joan can be considered a late Romanesque structure, probably dating from the 12th to the 13th century. It is, however, a rather enigmatic tower, as no historical documentation survives and the origin of its name is also unknown.

Furthermore, very close to the tower, following the ridge, there are remains of other walls. This suggests that it was not an isolated feature, as it might appear at first glance, but was likely part of a larger and more complex architectural complex.
