The Tower of Sant Joan is a construction that still preserves much of its mystery. Located at a narrow and strategic point in the terrain, in the middle of the valley, it seems to have served as a lookout and control point for access to the town from the east. Its position was no coincidence: from here, it was possible to observe movement through the area and monitor a key route for defence and territorial organisation.

The remains that survive today belong to a square tower measuring around 6.28 metres on each side, with thick walls of 1.10 metres and a preserved height that still reaches approximately 8 or 9 metres. Everything suggests that it originally had three floors, although the best-preserved section is the ground floor. Only fragments of the eastern and western walls remain from the upper levels, but they are enough to imagine the volume this building must once have had.

The Tower of Sant Joan is considered a late Romanesque construction, probably dating from the 12th or 13th century, but it remains a little-known element. No clear historical documentation has been preserved, and the origin of its name is also uncertain. This enigmatic character adds to the interest of the visit, especially because, near the tower and along the ridge, there are remains of other walls. This suggests that it was not an isolated structure, but may have formed part of a larger complex, only partially visible today.

It does not provide all the answers, and that is precisely what makes it interesting: it invites visitors to look more closely at the landscape, to imagine how the territory was controlled in medieval times, and to understand that sometimes the quietest remains are the ones that raise the most questions.
