The Spring of the Vaca is one of the most emblematic elements of the Spring of the Vaca Park, within the La Granja residential area in Caldes de Malavella. It is a monumental early 20th-century fountain, integrated into a summer resort and garden-city urban project promoted in the 1920s.
The ensemble presents a clearly Noucentista style with Modernist influences. The fountain is built in stone and masonry, with the spout located inside a niche decorated with white ceramic trencadís and flanked by moulded pilasters. At the top there are geometric sgraffito decorations and a tile depicting a cow, the element that gives the ensemble its name. The central body is crowned by a dome with broken ceramic decoration and ornamental elements, while the sides include a balustrade.
The park where it is located is part of the “Colonia La Granja” project, developed in the 1920s as a residential summer area, with gardens, Noucentista-style towers and complementary buildings such as the Casinet. The ensemble fully reflects the era of thermal summer tourism and the urban transformation of Caldes de Malavella in the early 20th century.
