Spa of the Picant Spring – Sant Hilari Sacalm

The Spa of the Picant Spring is a thermal complex located about 5 km from Sant Hilari Sacalm, at the foot of the Osor stream, in a natural setting closely linked to the area’s mineral-medicinal waters. The complex faces west and is made up of various elements combining architecture, gardens and hydraulic heritage.

The site includes the former hotel building, the main springs (the Spring of Sant Josep or number 1 and the Spring of Santa Teresa or number 3), the spring house, the garden and an ice well located within the green area. The main building is large in size, with a square floor plan, ground floor, three upper floors and attic. The façade features a porch with a semicircular arch supporting a balcony with balustrade, and all openings are segmental arches with brick lintels, separated by cornices marking the different levels.

The Spring of Sant Josep, discovered in the mid-18th century, was soon recognized for its healing properties, and the current structure dates from 1927, with the spring protected by a semicircular arch and a resting area. The Spring of Santa Teresa, discovered in 1877 and monumentalized in 1925, stands out for its stone construction with a pitched roof and ceramic decoration. The complex is completed by a cylindrical ice well of reduced size, which used the stream water and served the spa’s consumption needs.
