The Porxada Square of Amer is one of the most representative urban spaces of the town and one of the most unique arcaded squares in Catalunya, considered the second largest in the country.
It is a rectangular space where buildings of medieval origin, renovated between the 15th and 20th centuries, are concentrated, and it is especially characterized by the presence of commercial arcades, originating from the old covered market stalls of the 16th century.
One of its most distinctive features is the pavement, made of cobblestones from various Catalan towns (Girona, Olot, Vic, Mataró, Sabadell, Figueres, among others), installed in the 1980s, turning the square into a symbolic space of territorial connection.
Historically, the square has been the commercial centre of Amer, and even today it still hosts the weekly market on Wednesdays, continuing an activity rooted in medieval and modern times, when Amer was a trading hub for goods from the Anglès and Llémena valleys.
