Lighthouse of Tossa de Mar

The lighthouse of Tossa stands on the Tossa headland, in an elevated position above the sea overlooking the entire coastline. It is a lighthouse built on the former site of the medieval castle, combining defensive history and maritime function in a single place.

The building has a square floor plan and includes a central tower topped by the lantern. It currently houses an interpretation centre of Mediterranean lighthouses. Construction took place between 1913 and 1917, with access provided by a new road that made its construction possible in what was previously a difficult-to-reach location.

The lighthouse was inaugurated in 1917 and has undergone various technical improvements throughout the 20th century. Its location is particularly significant, as it replaces earlier structures and makes use of a historic site linked to the castle and the defence of the coastline of Tossa de Mar.
