The material remains of the governance of the Vicomtes de Cabrera and their agents are still visible at various points throughout the viscountcy. The Vicomté de Cabrera was a territory where trade was highly dynamic, well represented by markets and well connected to maritime routes.
The Gothic fountain was a project promoted by Bernat Joan de Cabrera, Viscount of Cabrera, and the town’s barber’s guild at the quarry of Pere Torrent, who had already completed it in 1443. It is the best-preserved example of Catalan civil Gothic architecture and one of the most important in Europe. Local microgranite was used for its construction, but also stone from Girona and limestone from Majorca for the decorative elements.
