Bullring Square – Hostalric

This plaza, or square, is located at the limit of the walled enclosure and what was the old centre of the town. From the 17th and 18th centuries onwards, the town expanded outside the walls on the far side of the square, along the streets named Carrer Raval and Carrer Ravalet. Thus, the Plaça dels Bous became the central hub of the modern town and a space for public celebrations and events, such as the livestock fairs that were held throughout the year and from which it takes its characteristic name (bous: oxen).

This square provides an excellent vantage point. From the so-called balcony of the square you can see the Castle of Hostalric, the local orchards and the Tordera river, as well as the mountain range that separates the area from the coast.
