The Pilgrim

Every January 20, hundreds of walkers accompany the pilgrim father of Tossa de Mar to the church of Sant Sebastià de Santa Coloma de Farners, located at the entrance to the city, fulfilling his vow, which, according to tradition, keeps the plague away from the 15th century population.

It is tradition for pilgrims to distribute them upon their arrival in Santa Coloma, always after sunset, where locals, family and friends await the pilgrims with candles, eager to give them warmth and welcome.

The next day, the 21st, the pilgrim father and his companions set off on the return journey to Tossa. In the afternoon, the fishing village receives the pilgrims amidst a sepulchral silence that gives goosebumps, and later it is announced that the vow has been fulfilled for another year.
