Flower Exhibition and Herbalists and Craftsmen Fair of Sant Ponç

The villagers of Sils, together with various organizations, organize a plant and flower exhibition, with prizes and activities. At the same time, the Sant Ponç Fair is held, with many stalls related to herbalism and crafts.

This festival, which is held every second or third Sunday in May, has three main themes: the Exhibition and Competition of Plants and Flowers, the Sant Ponç Fair and the Sant Isidre festival. On this day, residents also decorate the balconies and windows of the town’s houses.

The festival began in the 1960s with three women participating in a social service program with a rose contest. Later, a village teacher, Mr. Ramon Serra, continued the exhibition. Finally, the organization Amics de les Flors appeared, which after several generations, organizes this festival year after year.

The competition has been complemented, for some years now, with the Sant Ponç Fair, linked from the beginning to the world of agriculture and whose purpose is the veneration of this saint. The fair is complemented by a display of Sils entities and the dancing of an old traditional dance: “La Rua de Sant Ponç”.

Finally, the farmers celebrate the Feast of Saint Isidro on this day in honor of their patron saint and there is a tractor parade through the streets of the town. The tractors are decorated with flowers and blessed in the Church Square.
