Way of Saint James

The ancient route of the Via Augusta

The region of la Selva also has El Camí de Sant Jaume in the area of the Selva plain, which coincides with the ancient Roman route of the Via Augusta. In this case, these are the flatter sections of the paths that pass through la Selva. Specifically, El Camí de Sant Jaume, when it passes through Girona, separates into two: the itinerary that goes towards the mountain area of la Selva and a new itinerary that takes pilgrims towards Barcelona and enters la Selva through Riudellots de la Selva. From this town, the path forks again, on a branch that crosses the entire Selva plain in the direction of Hostalric, or on a variant towards the coast (Via de Marina). El Camí de Sant Jaume through the Selva plain pass through the municipalities of Riudellots de la Selva, Caldes de Malavella, Sils, Maçanet de la Selva, Massanes and Hostalric.
