Sant Martí Sacalm is one of those places that reveals the more mountainous and less travelled side of La Selva. Located within the municipality of Susqueda, at an altitude of 816 metres, it preserves the character of a small mountain village, with only a few houses, open surroundings and a very direct relationship with the landscape around it.
Formerly known as Sant Martí de Cantallops, this place was an independent municipality until 1846, when it became part of Susqueda. Since 1965, it has been the municipal capital, a fact that reinforces its administrative role in a territory marked by scattered farmhouses, forests and steep terrain. The village is home to the town hall and the Romanesque church of Sant Martí, two elements that help explain the historical importance of this small settlement.
Its strength does not lie in its size, but in what it preserves: the feeling of a place inhabited with calm, linked to rural life, mountain paths and a way of understanding the territory that is very different from larger towns. As part of Enselva’t, Sant Martí Sacalm is a stop for discovering a higher, quieter and very real side of La Selva, where landscape and history continue to shape the identity of the place.
