Sanctuary of Mare de Déu de la Serra – Fogars de la Selva

The Sanctuary of Mare de Déu de la Serra is located in a peaceful elevated setting on the slope of Montgròs, very close to the Can Serra farmhouse. It is a religious ensemble of medieval origin that is fully integrated into the rural and forest landscape of Fogars de la Selva.

The building consists of a single nave with an apse and a simple yet distinctive structure, enhanced by a lateral porch with three arches on each side. This space, added in later renovations, combines stone pillars and a wooden structure, giving the complex its character. The main façade preserves a semicircular arched stone doorway and side openings, with plastered and white-painted finishes.

Documented since the late 13th century, with references from 1280 and 1331, the sanctuary has historically been linked to the parish of Sant Andreu de Ramió. Over the centuries it has undergone several modifications, especially in the 17th century with the construction of the current porch, and today it remains in active religious use with the annual gathering celebrated on the first Sunday of September.
