The Castle of Brunyola stands at the highest point of the old town centre, dominating the urban area and shaping the historical origin of the village that grew around it. Its strategic location reflects the defensive and territorial control function typical of medieval fortifications.
Documented since 1106, the castle was part of the feudal domains of the Viscounty of Cabrera and later passed through different noble families. The current structure preserves its medieval layout, with an approximately square plan and remains of towers at the corners, despite later transformations and the impact of the 15th-century earthquakes.
Today, the complex is integrated with the church of Sant Fruitós, which incorporates part of the former defensive structure, including the bell tower built on top of an old castle tower. This fusion of military and religious architecture is one of the most distinctive features of the heritage site.
