The Museu de la Mar is located in the old Casa Garriga. This building, dating from the second half of the 19th century and located on Passeig Verdaguer, is the emblem of a glorious past, when some people from Lloret left everything to go and make their fortune in the Americas.
Although initially the population of Lloret lived from farming, its relationship with the sea soon made fishing the economic engine of most households. Over time, this activity grew and opened the way for maritime trade, both short-distance and transoceanic.
At the Museu de la Mar you can immerse yourself in the difficulties of that time, admire models of boats and learn up close what the great trade routes were like, especially the change brought about by the implementation of free trade in 1778.
