The Viscountcy of Cabrera was a territory which, from a religious point of view, was made up of a number of parishes, each with its own churches and hermitages providing religious services to the local community. The territory also included several monasteries belonging to different religious orders.
The parish of Vallcanera was established in the 10th century, when it separated from Caldes de Malavella and became fully autonomous. From 1245 onwards, the Church of Santa Eulàlia was dependent on the Augustinian canonry of Sant Pere Cercada (Santa Coloma de Farners). The present building is the result of renovations carried out in the 18th century, and the only surviving part of the Romanesque church is the apse, now concealed by the adjoining rectory, which is currently a private residence. Inside the church, a 16th-century Gothic baptismal font is preserved. In the 1358 document *Constitucions dels castells* (“Constitutions of the Castles”), the parish of Vallcanera is recorded as forming part of the district of Argimon Castle (Riudarenes), within the Viscountcy of Cabrera.
