Document\u00e9 depuis le Moyen \u00c2ge, le ch\u00e2teau n\u2019\u00e9tait pas seulement une r\u00e9sidence importante, mais aussi un point de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence dans un paysage organis\u00e9 autour du pouvoir f\u00e9odal, des chemins et des terres environnantes.<\/p>\n<p>Au fil des si\u00e8cles, l\u2019\u00e9difice a peu \u00e0 peu perdu une partie de son caract\u00e8re strictement d\u00e9fensif et s\u2019est adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 de nouveaux usages, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 prendre une apparence plus proche d\u2019une construction r\u00e9sidentielle. Cette \u00e9volution constitue pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment l\u2019un des aspects les plus int\u00e9ressants de l\u2019ensemble, car elle permet de comprendre comment de nombreux ch\u00e2teaux ont cess\u00e9 d\u2019\u00eatre des espaces pens\u00e9s pour la d\u00e9fense pour devenir des b\u00e2timents li\u00e9s \u00e0 la vie seigneuriale et \u00e0 l\u2019organisation quotidienne de la commune.<\/p>\n<p>Aujourd\u2019hui, le ch\u00e2teau de Vilob\u00ed d\u2019Onyar conserve encore la force d\u2019un \u00e9l\u00e9ment patrimonial int\u00e9gr\u00e9 \u00e0 la vie du village. Il ne se pr\u00e9sente pas comme une forteresse isol\u00e9e, mais comme une pi\u00e8ce qui aide \u00e0 lire l\u2019histoire du noyau et la mani\u00e8re dont la commune s\u2019est construite autour de lui.
