In this pine forest, known as the Bosc de Can Puig (Can Puig Forest), you will find a series of trenches from the Spanish Civil War. They consist of four holes dug into the ground and tend to be quadrangular in shape with rounded corners. These trenches measure 5 or 10 m2 and are located in the middle of the forest. They are 1-1.5 m wide and 80 cm deep. The origin of these trenches lies in the Republican army airfield, which was set up on the esplanade between the Bosc de Can Puig and Can Batllosera. In 1938, this place was used to shelter and preserve the airfield\u2019s fuel drums from any possible air raids. The fuel was stacked here forming the shape of a charcoal heap, like piles of logs. It was also used as a bomb depot.<\/p>\n
Some of the trenches were made by local people who worked there as labourers. It was abandoned in 1939 and the forest continued to grow, but since there are mainly pines, there is virtually no undergrowth and the shape of the trenches is clearly visible.
