The Chapel of Mare de Deu de Farers is thought to have been built on top of an earlier chapel, of which there are no remains. Of the Romanesque building consecrated in the year 1200, the semicircular apse and a section of the nave are still standing. In the 18th century, the church was extended, with a crossing being added, topped with an elliptical dome, as well as a spacious Baroque-style atrium. A Romanesque carving of the Virgin Mary known as the Mare de Deu de Farners (Mother of God of Farners) is worshipped at the church. However, the original statue is now kept at the parish church, in the center of the town, where it is kept in the conditions required to preserve such a carving.<\/p>\n
Located 50 meters above the Farners esplanade, the venue for important events, such as the Farners Choral Festival or Farners Apple celebration, we come to the Farners Castle. We have no record of the date of construction of this military fort, but archaeologically, we can determine that the earliest building dates back to the mid-11th century. The first written reference we find to the castle is in a document from the time of the Count of Barcelona, Ramon Berenguer I (1035-1076).
\nThe floor of the castle is shaped like an irregular trapezium, covering an area of 211 square meters. It has undergone a lot of restoration, but on all the perimeter walls, the two phases of construction could be distinguished: the first phase in the Romanesque period and the second in the early modern period (possibly from the 14th to 15th centuries). There are two entrances to the compound, and inside, there is the remarkable circular main tower, with a diameter of 8.4 meters and preserved with a height of 12 meters.
