Ice wells are constructions that were made by digging holes in the earth in areas where it was easy to access ice or snow. These holes were dug in order fill them with snow or ice, so as to make them available all year round. The top was covered with a vaulted roof, which had openings in it to allow snow and ice to be added and removed, although there was sometimes a lower entrance for extraction purposes.<\/p>\n
The El Sobir\u00e0 ice well dates from between the 17th and 18th centuries and is the result of the snow trade that was carried out at that time.<\/p>\n
The well was the property of the El Sobir\u00e0 farmhouse, although the documentation referring to its chronology was lost in a fire. The well is made up of a half-buried cylindrical chamber and a semi-spherical vault, measuring 8 metres in diameter and 11 metres high in relation to the ground. It has two entrances at different levels, facing north and south, and walls around 80 centimetres thick.<\/p>\n
