Honourable citizens of Barcelona, they were key figures in the history of La Cellera throughout the 19th century. Can Sabenc is the largest civil building of a certain age in the village.<\/p>\n<p data-id=\"zsvGcK\">Located on the left side of the main street (Carrer Major), the structure is freestanding, with three floors, four bays and a hip roof. The property previously included a large walled-in vegetable garden, but this was demolished with the expansion of the village in the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p data-id=\"hcVHc3\">In 1842, during the Carlist Wars, Josep Verg\u00e9s i del Vilar, the owner of the manor house Can Sabenc, was kidnapped. Armed with trabucs, or blunderbusses, the kidnappers seized him and the mayor (from another large house, Vinyoles d\u2019Amunt) while Sunday mass was being celebrated and would not release them until a ransom was paid. The perpetrators were well-known trabucaires from Santa Coloma de Farners (Ramon &#8220;Felip&#8221;, his brother Josep, a certain Amer Carreras, known as the friar of Amer, and Joan Llayt\u00f3).<\/p>\n<p data-id=\"reM984\">Today, the house comprises several dwellings, which are accessed through separate entrances.
