The earliest documented evidence of the Church of Sant Pere Despl\u00e0 is the certificate of consecration of the Parish Church of Sant Quirze d\u2019Arb\u00facies, dating from 923. Restoration work in 1983 uncovered pre-Romanesque paintings and it was confirmed that the church was built in two phases. The first phase possibly dates from the 9th or 10th century. The second phase comprised a major remodelling at the end of the 12th century or at the turn of the 13th century, giving the church the appearance it has today.
