Not far from the old Carrilet railway halt near Font Picant and Font de l\u2019Abeurador, the water fountain known as Font dels Carlins, or del Carl\u00ed (the Carlists were supporters of Don Carlos and his successors as having rightful title to the Spanish throne), is one of the most popular. Nestling in the forest between the path and the stream, its structure takes the shape of a small house with a gable roof, built in stone and exposed brickwork, with an iron spout emerging from the somewhat recessed front. The spring water that gushes forth is highly regarded by the local residents of Amer.<\/p>\n
The Carlins, or Carlists, were very familiar with the orography of this area, and took advantage of its lush vegetation for guerrilla warfare. On 26-27 January 1849, during the Second Carlist War, the final confrontation took place between the two sides\u2014the Carlists and the Liberals\u2014 in which the Carlist leader Ramon Cabrera was wounded.<\/p>\n
