The Font de l\u2019Abeurador fountain takes its name from the particular shape of the receptacle where the water falls, reminiscent of an animal drinking trough. It sits very near the right bank of the Colomer stream, and is easily accessible just 150 metres from the Carrilet greenway. The fountain extends from a small horizontal tied natural stone wall that serves as its fa\u00e7ade.<\/p>\n

Chestnut trees abound in the surrounding forest, flourishing in the cool environment and acid substrate. The shady orientation of the valley and the water course create a microclimate that favours their growth. Indeed, Amer is home to the oldest chestnut plantation in Catalonia\u2014they were planted here by monks in the 9th century\u2014with several varieties to be found: miquelenca (which appear around the time of Michaelmas), morr\u00f3, del pell\u00f3, tardana (the largest and suitable for roasting), and so on. Chestnuts are a major feature of the Saint Martin\u2019s Day festival held in the village in early November, with the Concurs de Torradors de Castanyes chestnut roasting competition and a public chestnut roasting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
