Background<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Since its widespread consumption around the 1930s, seafood has become a delight for food lovers. In La Selva we know this attraction to seafood, as its waters are home to two of the most gastronomically prized crustaceans: the prawn and the Llotja de Blanes scampi. <\/p>\n

Until trawlers arrived on the Selva coast, shrimp and crayfish fishing was highly complicated.<\/p>\n

Fishing<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The day of catching shrimp and crayfish begins at dawn, when authorized boats from the Blanes Fishermen’s Guild set out in search of the delicious crayfish and prawns of Blanes<\/a> . It is not until around 5 pm that these delicacies of the sea arrive at the fish market. That is when they are auctioned off among restaurateurs and fishmongers in the region so that they can add them to their gastronomic offer. <\/p>\n

The shrimp inhabits the so-called Blanes Canyon: an underwater depression located off the coast of Selva and which at its deepest points reaches 1,000 m, although we can find it between 400 and 800 m deep.<\/p>\n

The crayfish, for its part, is located on muddy bottoms, hidden in galleries that it digs itself and that can extend up to a meter in length.<\/p>\n

Fishing takes place all year round. The Blanes Fishermen’s Guild manages the fishing, carried out by eight trawlers. <\/p>\n

The kitchen<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The shrimps and crayfish from Blanes are highly valued culinaryly due to the tenderness of their fine and tasty meat, and the pinkish-reddish hue they present. Small pieces of salt and sea that melt in the mouth. <\/p>\n

One of the great advantages of shrimp and crayfish is that you don’t need to be a virtuoso in the kitchen to enjoy these gems of the Costa Brava. Baked in the oven or grilled with a few drops of olive oil, it will be enough to taste and see why the shrimp and crayfish from the Llotja de Blanes are considered delicacies of the sea. <\/p>\n

The prawns and crayfish from the Llotja de Blanes have a well-deserved reputation as pleasures of the sea. Products that have topped the menus of prestigious and traditional restaurants in the region for decades. <\/p>\n

Shrimp consumption<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Shrimp is a source of protein with high biological value, but humans have trouble digesting it properly. In addition, they only contain 2% fat, most of which is unsaturated. Their consumption is also positive due to the large number of vitamins and minerals they contain. One of the problems derived from excessive consumption of shrimp is the increase in uric acid. <\/p>\n
